Team Requirements
Athletes Required: 5–8
(minimum of 5 must compete, minimum age: 16)
Staff: Optional for Phygital Games USA; up to 5 staff members allowed.
Winning teams receive travel support for 5 players in the original roster and 3 reinforcements or members of the original team, as well as 1–2 staff.
Reinforcements:
–> 30% of the original roster in the Phygital Soccer tournament in the US can be replaced for the International Qualifiers in Dubai.
–> 30% of the roster that participates in the International Qualifiers can be replaced for the main Games of The Future event.
Therefore, there are two opportunities to reinforce winning teams towards the international competitions to maximize the Club’s chance of winning.
Tournament Format
General Overview: The competition begins with a group stage, in which teams compete in groups of 4 in a GSL “without a fifth match” elimination format.
GSL Elimination: The “GSL without a 5th Match” format is a system of matches at the group stage, in which all group members play 2 matches in the following order:
1. In the 1st round, the group members are divided into pairs by draw;
2. The winners of each pair meet in the second round to play the match for the first and second place in the group, respectively the winner of this match takes 1st place in the group, while the loser takes 2nd place;
3. The teams that lost in the first round compete against each other in the second round in a match for 3rd and 4th place. The winner of this match takes 3rd place in the group, while the loser takes 4th place.
Progression: Teams ranked 1st in their groups advance directly to the quarterfinals and teams ranked 4th get eliminated. The losers of the Winner’s Match play the winners of the Loser’s Match in a decisive match to determine progression.
